Down With The New is David Chens second album and first collection of electronic-flavored music tracks. He combines elements of jazz, house, J-pop, Latin, and jam band, fusing them into a wicked combination of insane solos, and frenzied beats that no General MIDI sequencist would dare dream up. This is an electronic/jazz fusion for the schizophrenic, at times lush and at times jagged. Topics: Fusion, Cool Jazz, Poptronica

We like receiving new tracks from new artists out of the blue, and previously Berlin and Chicago-based Gschmidt is another of those happy surprises. The lead track, 'Head For The Hills', starts with some serene synthplay before delving into a complex melding of live instruments, driving percussion, and carefully... Adria formed in Malmö, Sweden in the fall of 1999 when the couple Julia and Kristofer decided to make music together having played in other bands apart. With Julia singing and playing the organ and with Kristofer's pre-recorded beats and bass, the duo's take on naive semi-electro-pop songs flowed freely, resulting in their self-released 5 track CDr EP in January 2000, followed by their debut full-length album, "Palaio Faliro" on Speakerphone Recordings. What's astounding about Santa Inferno's debut is that not only is every song unique, each one is a pop masterpiece. This is a band that refuses to take the road most traveled, but does not renounce harmony and melody for mere outlandishness. They deftly circumvent pigeonholing, marrying that tireless inventiveness to unrelentingly contagious songwriting. Here is a group possessed by the muse but not at her mercy; drunk with their own power yet never corrupted by it. From "Christina,"... There are two legitimate stances that one can take in the face of a world that is cruel, stupid, and absurd: the Lachrymose and the Laughing. C.J. Pizarro's Snow Crabs is a risible, boisterous, and endlessly inventive avant hip-pop album that shamelessly adopts the latter. Pizarro's exuberance and creativity boil over into bizarre lyrics, lavishly haunting production, picaresque style-hopping, gorgeous melodicism, goofy characterization -- even the madman burbling of acapella orgasm.
